Gerry O’Beirne and his guitars are back in the States

Gerry O’Beirne and his guitars are back in the States

Gerry O’Beirne, one of my favorite “Savor the Experience” experiences, returns from world travels to California for his autumn tour.

I was beginning to wonder where Gerry O’Beirne had wandered off. Autumn is his usual time to make an appearance and thank goodness I checked an old email address to find, buried in garden tips and baking notes, his 2014 Fall tour dates.

Gerry is truly a unique experience. Across the pond he comes to fill his rental car with guitars of various shapes and sizes and one ukulele. He plays only intimate gigs where the before, intermission and after, you’ll find a very approachable seasoned and highly talents musician and song writer.

His first CD album “Half Moon Bay” was long awaited and hailed by Folkworld as “”A masterpiece”. I can’t argue there. “Western Highway” remains one of my favorites; in which Gerry’s lyrics and vocals creating a great synergy with his original music.

avenueThen came “The Bog Bodies And Other Stories: Music For Guitar” was includes two songs written in contemplation of Oldcroghan Man and Clonycavan Man housed in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.

GerryObeirne You can get on Gerry’s mailing list or purchase music through Gerry’s website, which he personally maintains:

My favorite song “Labasheeda is on the “Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful” album

by Gerry O’Beirne & Rosie Shipley. Folkworld called this “An Extraordinary album with innovative arrangements and hauntingly beautiful songs.”

Kevin Stewart-Magee Solo Show "Renegotiating the Past"

Last Friday I spent a wonderful evening at the Apothecary Gallery. Kevin Stewart-Magee’s one man show, “Renegotiating the Past” was an apropo eighth show to grace this venue which has not only breathed life back into a derelict building but into the entire 500 block on 2nd Street in Pomona, California.

Kevin Stewart-Magee has a lot of sweat equity in Pomona. As an artist he has a history of investing his sweat for the community greater good. Kevin was the facilitator and lead artist of the “Pomona Envisions the Future” mural is just down the street across two side of a historic two story building. Since that endeavor which spanned 2002-2004, Kevin has made a concerted effort to support the complete art community as an educator, organizer, artist, neighbor, and friend.

This show runs from October 10th to November 1st. Here are some photos of the opening night and the pieces available for sale. Each has a backstory… just ask the artist.

Liz Lewis just released “Outfox”, her latest bronze wildlife sculpture.

I’m proud to saw that I knew Liz back she was still a Michigan high school student, and was taken by her sage outlook that, to this day, has always retained the full sense of wonder. She now lives with her husband James Lewis in Montana, where they live a life that’s in all ways, real, whole and complete on a daily basis.

Liz just released “Outfox“, her latest in a series of bronze wildlife sculptures. Drawing from her many hours of wildlife observation, Liz brings to life a fox sneaking through the field. This three dimensional bronze features the animal in full coat and painted in its true life colors. Measuring approximately 11.5″ x 5” x 3.5”, its produced in a limited edition of 30. A great investment at $1600.

Rabbit Holes & Art

I went down yet another Rabbit Hole this morning. I’m leaving for a graphic design committee meeting in MINUTES… and I find myself wandering; first from Chris Matthew’s “Hardball” program which featured U.S. Senator Al Simpson (WY). Then I remember that Al’s daughter, Sue, has that FABULOUS gallery in Cody, where I’ve bought many a treasure. Then I start to thinkin’ about some of my favorite artists that have works there… T.A. Lawson, Joel Ostlind, and Tony Hochstetler,,,

The Simpson Gallagher Gallery is truly a wonderful gallery. By far the best in Cody, but really one of my favorites because of the energy it exudes even across the web. If you have the opportunity to visit Yellowstone, or Cody itself, it’s well worth the trip to visit with Sue and Chuck’s amazing representation of art that stands up and, in many MANY cases, surpasses 95% of what you can find in the open market of the genres they represent.

And now, I’m late for my meeting. argh. 😉

…maybe I should have called this blog, “Adventures of the ADSO*”…

Gerry O’Beirne & Rosie Shipley in California

MUSIC: My first music post is all about Gerry O’Beirne, BECAUSE he’s coming to Southern Cal this coming weekend where he’ll do two shows; one in Pasadena and one in San Juan Capistrano. I highly recommend seeing Gerry in person; truly beautiful music that will transport you! I’ll review each of his CD’s on future posts.

Gerry has been a favorite musician of mine since the 90’s when a friend took me to see him and Andy M. Stewart as they toured small venues throughout the US.  And small venues is what it’s all about. So close that you could almost throw a piece of popcorn (if they sold any)  and hit a musician from any seat in the house; just a minimum about of sound equipment, and sometimes none at all other than the instruments.

Gerry writes and performs his own music. His ballads are hauntingly beautiful. Sometimes there are lyrics, but always the music itself is the star.

Gerry is coming to Cali starting next week in Pasadena at CalTech, on March 19th, 2011 and ending up  in Pacific Grove on April 2nd, 2011. Here’s the announcement he sent out:

Dear California friends,

Taking to the highways and playing in California in the Springtime. Starting with Caltech next Saturday.
Meeting friends old and new. I’ve been recovering from an achilles operation so i will be hobbling a little.
But music doesn’t hobble! I’m looking forward to seeing you there,
Gerry O’Beirne

Yet another blog? YAH!

My background is in information technology, but my passion is ‘real’ life. I have another blog, but there were just too many subjects on it. I needed to move my posts about moments in real life to be savored to its own blog. Write me if you wish. I will respond within three days most times.
